Tomorrow waits...
So tomorrow we meet with Rachel. I just got done reading all of the prerequisite paperwork. The average age of adopting parents thru the program is 38. Average. So that's good...right? We're on the high end of average...

Anticipation 11/15/09
Gene and I decided to start a blog about the (to be) adventures of Baby Beeswax (so named by his/her yet-to-be-adoptive father earlier this week). I have other friends who have blogged about their adoption process and found it to be a nice way to keep (interested) friends and family in the loop, while documenting their thoughts, fears, frustrations and joy during the process. So here we are...
A Peek Behind the Curtain
Although we did our paperwork a couple of weeks ago, it took a couple more before we sent in our first round of payment. Within a week, we were contacted an assigned an adoption counselor...Dana. But for whatever reason, Dana was not the appropriate counselor, and so Rachel contacted us instead. Rachel offered a couple of times to meet - all during work hours, which was a bummer for me - and we picked a time. Luckily, they have satellite offices in Hyde Park, so we'll be meeting Rachel there. Classes may be limited to the Evanston location, we'll see, but I know Gene won't mind going all the way up there - as we're sure to partner it with a visit to Merle's or Addis Abbeba.
Either way, this week, we meet and formally start the process. A 2 hour initial meeting, some paper work, a chance to ask questions and I'm not sure what else awaits us, but the anticipation is building...
A Peek Behind the Curtain
- I have no illusions that keeping this blog will make us writers. I'm hoping we'll keep it up...but that remains to be seen.
- I have no illusions that we will NOT be loving, devoted, good parents. It's just that I fear the rocky road ahead of us. Be it financial worries, self-doubt and/or the waiting game, which I know every adoptive parent must play, I hope that the process does not wear us down.
- I have no illusions that we will get through this process minorly scathed...but no worse for wear.
